Chicago Fire game

On Wednesday I got to play at a Chicago Fire game with my marching band. It was the finals of the U.S. cup or something. It was a lot of fun. First, we played in front of the only gate for 45 minutes before the game started. Mr. Dahl said we played in front of about 10,00 people! Then, we went in (we got in free instead of $25 tickets!) and watched the game. The Fire won 3-1, and it was an exciting game with an enthusiastic crowd. At the end of the game we played a song for everyone.
One of the best part was that when we were playing in front of the stadium there this one L.A. Galaxy fan who walked past (and had had a few too many beers already) and started pretending to conduct us. Then he went in danced past us between the conductors and us. Mr. Dahl told him to "go have some fun somewhere else." So he went in the stadium and started watching us from the back of the stadium (we were standing up against the wall). He was saying stuff like "Go Galaxy." He even dropped a piece of paper on the band. About 20 or 30 minutes after the game, we were loading the buses, and he came on our bus and congratulated us. All in all, it was a great time.

What are the seven deadly sins?

At church on Sunday, the priest referred to the seven deadly sins in his homily. Walking out of church, Chris asked, "What are the seven deadly sins?" I came up with four of them. I've been thinking about it during the week. I'm up to six, but I haven't checked my work yet. I have a short list in my head of candidates for the seventh deadly sin. I'd like to come up with the seventh. Do you know the seven deadly sins?

Funny Sentence-Diagramming Story

On the subject of diagramming sentences, I have an interesting anectdote.

Austin: How often will we be doing this?
Mr. Stukel: About twice a week
Austin: Cool
Mr. Stukel: Why?
Austin: It's fun.
(Class laughs)

John will diagram sentences

Last week, I attended Open House for parents at Lyons Township High School. Parents follow their student's schedule and hear 10-minute presentations from teachers. I was thrilled that John's English teacher said that they would be diagram sentences. He was a bit defensive about it, so I probably should have broken into applause so he'd know that he had my support at least. I was happy with John's teachers across the board. The high school was an important factor in our moving into the area. In fact, Chris arranged a meeting and tour with the high school when we were looking at houses.

Home Arts Assigment

Dad made a few mistakes when he wrote about the Home Arts Assigmnent. I only did 3 loads and did not secure extra credit, but I still got an A. Even though the stains were too big to get out on dad's shirt, I succesfully took out a stain, that was very dark, off on a John's white shirt. I am doing very well in the Home Arts class. We watched these really long and boring movies, about fabric and the other one was about clothing care. After it we took a small quiz on them. I wasn't for a grade, just to see if we were paying attention. The teacher said that if we got 7 out of 10, it was a very good score. Well, I got 9 out of 10 on one, and 10 out of 10 in another. Now we are working at the sewing machines. I have succesfully spun the bobin, and I can thread the machine prfectly. I thought it was fun when we sewed on paper for practice. I think it helped A LOT, because I had sewed something on a machine a time before with mom's help. So that was nice of mom to help me do that last year. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, pleas email me.

Homework: Remove ground-in dirt

Clare's assignment for home arts was to do two loads of laundry. She also had a worksheet with questions to answer about her experience. She approached by soaking overnight in a mix of water and detergent. Not entirely successful, but she did her best. All in all, I thought it was a good assignment. Clare completed four loads, securing extra credit and some free time for her folks. I await the dishwashing unit.
