Writing in Language Arts Class

In Language Arts class, the writing for third quarter is a newspaper unit. I like this unit a lot becasue it's more fun, and it doesn't have to be as long as most stories. First we wrote news stories, and we could make them up. Mine was about how a dog found buied trasure at a beach. (I made it up.) Next we wrote feature stories for our news storie. Mine was about what the owner of the dog would do with the treasure.
Right now, we are writing editorials. I wrote mine about why Barrack Obama is a better candidiate then Hillarey Clinton. I think it's pretty good. If you were interested, I could mail or email the stories if you want to hear them.

Big Lebowski spawns new religion

Fans of "The Big Lebowski" won't be surprised that a new religion has sprung from Lebowski's teachings. Chicago Sun-Times religion columnist Cathleen Falsani wrote about Dudeism -- The Church of the Latter-Day Dude in a column last week. She quoted a professor who talks about the ironic appeal of Lebowski's shallow and deep attention to being. The Big Lebowski is one of few movies we've seen more than once. We turn to it for inspiration in time of stress. I guess we're not alone. Check out the Web site here.

Arrrgh, Matey!!!!

This semester we have an interesting bus driver. He acts like he's a pirate. He even has a big mustache!!! While on the bus, one is not suprised hear a hearty "Aaargh, Matey," from the front of the bus from time to time. If the car in front of our bus is not going fast enough, you might hear him yell "walk the plank!" at the car. Clare once had him and he said "Next stop, Treasure Island!"

Squall cap weather

Chicago has been in deep freeze the past week. John took this photo a week ago Saturday. That's me in my best winter outerwear, which I reserve for single digit weather. Uncle Rodney gave me the squall cap a few years ago. If the weather is zero or under, I'll wear it to work, as I did a few days this week. Today, we got up to the 20s.
